Are the Detroit Red Wings being too petty when it comes to Dylan Larkin? At least one former National Hockey League player and coach seem to believe that is exactly what transpired on Friday night.

As most of you reading this will already know, former Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin was mercilessly booed by his own hometown fans on Friday night when he was introduced as part of the home-opening ceremony at Little Caesars Arena. While it was a reaction that was entirely expected, two prominent NHL personalities believe the Red Wings may have done more harm than good to their organization in the long term by putting Larkin out there in the first place.

It was former NHLer Paul Bissonnette who spoke first, suggesting the entire affair felt a bit amateurish on the part of the Red Wings.

"I think we can all agree it was a bit bush league by the organization," said Paul Bissonnette on the NHL broadcast.

Bissonnette continued to suggest that he believes this will damage whatever relationship remains between Larkin and the Red Wings.

"I think that they are trying to publicly embarrass him a little bit and any chance of reconciliation maybe before this I would say the player would be like 'See you later, I'm out of here, that's enough," said Bissonnette.

While that could be dismissed as merely one man's opinion, former NHL head coach Bruce Cassidy also echoed very similar sentiments.

"They get their pound of flesh but at what cost?" asked Cassidy. "Players pay attention to this and that could be problematic."

Cassidy was clearly implying that other players may be hesitant to join an organization that is so willing to publicly embarrass one of their own, although admittedly it would be difficult to replicate the uniquely terrible situation Larkin has put himself in this summer.
