Former NHL player believes Penguins player should be suspended.

One former National Hockey League player turned NHL analyst has shared a very controversial opinion, but honestly his idea isn't all that crazy.

Following the third period dive from Penguins veteran Nick Bonino, a large number of fans and players were understandably upset that such a disgraceful play from Bonino had a profound impact on the game, however Mike Johnson took that one step further.

While on the air former NHLer Mike Johnson stated that he wished Bonino could be suspended for one game for that type of play, and frankly it doesn't sound like a terrible idea.

While we understand that suggesting the rule should be implemented in the middle of a playoff series is ridiculous, especially given the context of the injury to Sidney Crosby which resulted in no suspension, the idea itself is something we could really get behind.

If a rule was put on the table next season that would allow the league to suspend players for diving or embellishment, we believe it's the kind of rule that would get a lot of support from fans of the NHL. Fans of hockey generally tend to have a very poor opinion of dives and the players who commit them, and implementing a punishment that would hurt teams if their players were caught diving could help reduce the number of dives in the NHL.
