Adam Mair fired after being arraigned on serious charges this week.
The shocking arrest of former National Hockey League forward Adam Mair has now officially cost him his job.
This week the Buffalo Sabres officially parted ways with Mair after he was arraigned on multiple charges related to driving while intoxicated following an arrest back in September. Mair, who played in over 600 NHL games during his professional hockey career, had been serving as the Sabres director of player development at the time of the incident.
The Sabres released the following statement:
"Adam Mair is no longer employed as our Director of Player Development. We wish him well. We will evaluate the best fit for that role moving forward. In the interim, the current player development staff will continue to handle the responsibilities of their positions."
It would be shocking to see anyone connected to the NHL arrested for DWI following the tragic incident that took the lives of brothers Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau last year, but the incident involving Mair was particularly shocking due to the fact that there were children in his vehicle at the time of the incident. Mair stands accused of crashing his vehicle with the children inside, thankfully no one was injured as a result of his actions.
Mair is facing multiple charges and won't learn his fate until he returns to court, the next proceeding in this case is scheduled for December later this year.
Mair was originally drafted into the league by the Toronto Maple Leafs who selected him in the 4th round (84th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft and played for the Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, New Jersey Devils and of course the Buffalo Sabres throughout his NHL career.
I can only hope that this will serve as a serious wakeup call for Mair, and hopefully he gets the help that he needs.
