Cowardly act here, hopefully somebody took a number
Former NHLer Joe Juneau is calling for a lifetime ban for a youth/minor hockey player in Quebec following a gutless play during a tournament in Rimouski, Quebec.
Juneau, who has worked with minor hockey players in his native Quebec since retiring from the NHL over 20 years ago, currently runs the École Zénith hockey development program at Saint-Marc High School in Saint-Marc-des-Carrières, in Portneuf, Quebec.
This past weekend while attending a tournament in Rimouski and one of his players suffered a vicious attack on the ice... before play even started!
The scene took place during the final of the M18 D2 school category at the BMO National Tournament in Rimouski. The lights were dimmed for the players' entrance onto the ice rink that usually hosts the Oceanic.
The Zenith players were taking turns entering the ice rink when a player from Paul-Hubert High School Selects from Rimouski came over, crossed the red line and absolutely obliterated one of the Zenith's players with a blind-side, head-on collision.
Here's the hit in question:
"So filthy and disgraceful! A gesture that deserves nothing less than a lifetime ban! I hope the federation's leaders will act accordingly!" Juneau said in his native French on Facebook.
"And they dare call this school hockey! What a terrible example of education!!" Juneau shared.
For what it's worth, the player did receive a 10 minute game misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct and did see a minute of action. Still, Juneau is calling for a full lifetime ban from Quebec Hockey for the unnamed youth.
