A former Edmonton Oiler has made a plea to return to his former team, and he has chosen some rather colorful words to do it with.

During a recent interview with the Russian Media, former Edmonton Oiler Klim Kostin revealed that he was desperate to make his return to Edmonton. Kostin played with the Oilers during the 2022-23 NHL regular season and had by far the best stretch of his career there, putting up 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 57 games.

Since then however he signed a two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings who quickly traded him to the San Jose Sharks, and things simply just weren't the same for Kostin. The Russian forward admits that the feeling he got from the passionate Canadian fans in the City of Edmonton was unlike any he had ever experienced outside of his home country.

"In Edmonton, the fans understand hockey, they see all the little things: even if you didn't score or made a mistake, but you gave it your all, they appreciated it," admitted Kostin as per Sport Express. "They were the ones who pushed you forward. I wanted to go out and die on the ice for these people, for their emotions. I haven't had that anywhere except for the championship season in Avangard."

What makes this even more interesting is that Kostin may be turning down offers elsewhere in an effort to hopefully find a spot on the Oilers roster at some point in the season. Kostin expressed that he had received interest from other teams, but had his heart set on rejoining the Oilers.

"There are offers," said Kostin. "They talked about Los Angeles, where former Edmonton general manager Ken Holland works now. There are rumors that the Oilers might make an offer too. Of course, this is my dream. They say you can’t step into the same river twice, but I would like to try my luck again. This is the place where I felt most comfortable and was myself."

The issue at hand is that the Oilers don't have any cap space for Kostin, who is coming off of a 2 year deal that carried an average annual value of $2 million per season, and it remains to be seen if they can manage to find a way to fit him under their cap. It may even be the case that the Oilers themselves aren't that interested, given that Kostin is coming off of a difficult season in which he had just 1 goal and 6 assists over 35 games with an admittedly bad San Jose Sharks team.

Should the Oilers consider bringing him back? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
