Controversy continues to surround the Penguins.

It seems like everyone and their mother is coming out of the woodwork to grandstand about the decision the Pittsburgh Penguins have made to visit the White House, and that list now includes former Pittsburgh Penguins' players as well.

According to a report from the Canadian Press, former National Hockey League enforcer Georges Laraque has decided to criticize his former team and even went so far as to suggest that the league should somehow intervene.

“I know hockey’s more conservative than other sports, but this time it’s just wrong,” said Laraque as per The Canadian Press. “I’m surprised the NHL didn’t make a stand.

“To me, it’s an embarrassment that they’re going.”

While we certainly respect everyone's right to an opinion to suggest that the NHL should somehow get involved and presumably prevent the Penguins from visiting the White House, something every team has done in the past regardless of political affiliation, just feels like yet another hysterical overreaction to a problem that seems to be largely generated by the media.

We obviously can't speak to the opinion of every hockey fan in the world, the response on our page since the start of this controversy has indicated that hockey fans don't see nearly as big of an issue here as the hockey media appears to be making it.
