The Philadelphia Flyers have hired John Tortorella as their new head coach and fans have a lot of opinions about Torts coming to Philly. While he is the second-winningest American head coach in NHL history and a two-time Jack Adams Award winner, he is especially known for his fiery attitude who can rub players and team management the wrong way. He also got into it several times with reporters when he was the bench boss of the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets.

And one of his former players took a shot at Tortorella when the announcement was made. Former Ranger and Blue Jacket Brandon Dubinsky tweeted a brutal remark about Torts on Thursday night:

The relationship between the forward and the head coach lasted almost eight years as Dubinsky played four with the Rangers, four with the Blue Jackets.

While Dubinsky is quick to humiliate Torts, he had some of his most productive seasons under Tortorella. For example during the 2010-11 season, Dubinsky logged a career-high 24 goals and 54 points.

However, Dubinsky once described his relationship with Torts to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic as “a s*** show” just before he was traded to the Blue Jackets in 2012.

“It wasn’t a good year. We weren’t getting along,” Dubinsky said. “I didn’t agree with the decisions he was making for me, so for me, Columbus was a fresh start. I was energized and excited. I was back to playing the way I knew how to play.”

Everyone has an opinion on Tortorella and clearly Dubinsky’s is not a good one. As he takes over in Philadelphia, let’s hope that none of his new players feel the same way as Dubinsky…
