Are the Vancouver Canucks about to hire yet another retread?

Canucks insider Thomas Drance of The Athletic reports today that the Canucks have been granted permission to interview former Buffalo Sabres GM Kevyn Adams for their vacant GM position.

The Canucks, of course, dismissed GM Patrik Allvin last week and team President Jim Rutherford is reportedly conducting an exhaustive search for his replacement.

From Drance's article for The Athletic today:

The Vancouver Canucks have requested and been granted permission to interview former Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams for their vacant GM position, according to a league source. The source was granted anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the Canucks’ search.

A Canucks team source declined to confirm whether the club had requested permission to discuss its general manager vacancy with Adams, but did not deny it, citing an organizational preference for running this interview process quietly and privately.

Adams was hired by the Sabres in 2020 and dismissed this past December. Because he still had time left on his contract with the Sabres however, the Canucks needed the Sabres' permission in order to interview him.

The run that the Sabres have since gone on since Adams' dismissal has cast a new light on his work with the team over the past half decade. Adams is largely responsible for constructing the Sabres' roster, having only really inherited the likes of Rasmus Dahlin and Tage Thompson. He made two huge trades involving top picks Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart and acquired the likes of Jason Zucker, Ryan McLeod, Alex Tuc and Bowen Byram. His draft track record is solid too, having selected Owen Power, Zach Benson and Jack Quinn.

Of course, Adams was fired for a reason though and it's fair to say that he had his fair share of trade and draft whiffs, as well. The Reinhart trade hasn't worked out. The Dylan Cozens for Josh Norris trade was also a gamble that hasn't worked out to this point.

So... what do you think, Canucks fans? Would you welcome Adams as the team's new GM?
