Back to Russia?
This just in, the Vancouver Canucks have placed forward Vitali Kravtsov on waivers for the purposes of terminating his NHL contract.
Once Kravtsov clears waivers tomorrow he'll become an unrestricted free agent and is expected to return to his native Russia where he'll sign with his hometown team Chelyabinsk Traktor.
This, of course, is nothing new for Kravtsov. He has made several attempts to crack the NHL but has retreated back to Russia each time when things get difficult. He was drafted 9th overall by the New York Rangers back in 2018, but failed to stick with the team over five seasons. He managed only 48 games with the team over those five seasons and was sent to the Canucks for a fresh start. Well... after just 16 games with the Canucks he returned to Russia for another two seasons, but was back again with the Canucks this pre-season before being assigned to the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks. With just one goal in 10 AHL games to start this season and with no imminent call up to the NHL coming though, it looks like Kravtsov is flying back home to the KHL once again.
At 25 years old and with three attempts at cracking the NHL, you have to imagine that this is the end of the road for Kravstov's NHL dreams.
