No matter how you try to spin it, the 2015-2016 season for veteran Mike Richards was ugly.

Richards played just half of a season as a member of the Washington Capitals, and while he only cost the team $1 million to sign, he only put up 2 goals and 3 assists during the regular season. To make matters worse for the Capitals Richards went scoreless in the postseason, likely where they were hoping the veteran would have his biggest contribution.

Despite that Richards recently informed Kenora Online of his intent to play another season.

“Not much right now just training, trying to get ready for the season. Not sure where it's going to be yet, but hopefully get some traction in the next couple of weeks,” said Richards, who is an unrestricted free agent. “I plan to play hockey next year. So, it will just be what is the best fit for me.”

Richards believes that the fact he only played half a season played a role in his poor performance, and is hoping to sign on with a team for a full season.

“Obviously, a disappointing end to the season, but that happens, only one team can win. It was a little bit of an up-and-down season. I probably expected it to go a little more offensively, but it's not easy to just jump in mid-season. Live and learn and hopefully I can get a full season under my belt this year.”

The level of interest for Richards last year appeared to be relatively low, and it's hard to imagine that after his performance with the Capitals, and being a year older, that there will be any major interest in him this time around.
