Frans Nielsen tears up as Danish fans chant his name following his final game

A touching moment for a guy who put together a great career.

Longtime NHLer Frans Nielsen played his final professional hockey game today with his with native Denmark bowing out of the IIHF World Championships in a 7-1 loss to Slovakia.

For the 38 year old Nielsen, it's the end of a long career that started way may in 2001 with Malmo of the Swedish Elite League. His career took him away from away from his hometown of Herning, Denmark to Sweden to Long Island, NY and Detroit, MI and then finally to Berlin, Germany. 

He put up 167 goals and 473 points in 925 career NHL games split between the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings. After failing to catch on with an NHL team following the 2020-21 season Nielsen signed with the Berlin Polar Bears of the German DEL and just now completed his Swan Song with the Danish National Team in the World Championships.

How's that for a retirement party? 

We should all be so lucky as to have people chanting our name when we finally retire from the rat race.
