Frederik Andersen suffers another setback, will be out long-term
This guy just can't catch a break. Are the Hurricanes in trouble?
According to a report from TSN insider Pierre LeBrun, the Carolina Hurricanes will be without goaltender Frederik Andersen for the next eight weeks as he recovers from a knee operation.
LeBrun states that it's not a major surgery and is "just a clean up" procedure.
From LeBrun:
Andersen, of course, has missed significant time recently due to a heart issue that was uncovered last season. He's played just four games for the Hurricanes this season and it appears that the team has turned its focus to Pyotr Kochetkov in Andersen's absence the past calendar year.
The 31 year old Andersen is in the 2nd year of a two year contract that pays him $3.4 million per season and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason. Personally, I'd have a hard time committing to Andersen on a new contract given his history. No knock against the guy and his skills, but he's simply not reliable enough to warrant a position on an NHL team.
