The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that they have come together to make a Friday evening trade. The Leafs who were maxed out at 50 contracts and appear to have made this move in order to gain some flexibility. The Leafs have traded away Carter Ashton, who is best known for failing a drug test for performance enhancing drugs, and David Broll to the Lightning for a conditional seventh round draft pick. The Leafs have long been rumored to be looking to make a major deal and this may be the precursor to that. There have been rumors of Cody Franson possibly going to Detroit, as well as rumors involving multiple teams interested in Daniel Winnik and Joffrey Lupul. As for the Lightning they acquire a young AHL player they hope will continue to shine despite the PED concerns in Ashton, as well as an ECHL player in Broll they hope they can help develop.
