Friedman: Hurricanes put two very surprising names on the trading block.

The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to shake things up in a major way, and it's likely something that no one could have expected.

The Hurricanes made a couple of trades over the summer and all of them were blockbuster type deals that appear to have really panned out well for the opposing teams involved in those trade deals. One notable such trade was the deal that sent both Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm to the Calgary Flames in exchange for highly talented, if slightly odd, defenseman Dougie Hamilton. It was a risky move from the Hurricanes but it was one that guaranteed them a right shot defenseman that would immediately slot in to a top 4 role in their line up.

It's for that reason that the fact that Hamilton's name has once again popped up in trade talks is so shocking to hear, especially considering how much the Hurricanes gave up for him, but it appears that is indeed the case. On Saturday night National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that there are now 2 players, the aforementioned Hamilton and Micheal Ferland, on the Hurricanes line up that are currently sitting on the trading block.

"Another team that has said that we can not be in a position to let our free agents walk for nothing are the Carolina Hurricanes," began Friedman.

"I believe that's why a lot of talks have heated up on Micheal Ferland, I don't think that they are anywhere close between the team and the player."

"Another name guys I'm curious about is Dougie Hamilton. They have 4 right shot defenseman, they have been asked about Hamilton, if you're willing to come back at them with a scorer I think that they would be willing to do it."

This may speak to the fact that the alleged locker room issues with Hamilton that lingered in both Boston and Calgary have followed him to Carolina. There have always been rumors that Hamilton is somewhat of an odd fellow and the fact that he is back on the trading block so quickly could point to the fact that he has not meshed well with the organization in Carolina. That is of course only speculation at this time.
