The Toronto Maple Leafs coughed up a significant lead on Sunday night before eventually losing to the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 5-4, and it was clear after the game that frustration has started to set in for some players on the roster.

Following the conclusion of the game, Maple Leafs veteran forward John Tavares spoke to the media and expressed some of his own thoughts in a rare moment of frustration in front of the cameras. Tavares called out his own teammates for their lack of attention to detail, calling the team's play on the ice immature.

"At times we did some really good things and were able to give ourselves a lead and our game for whatever reason becomes really immature and we don't manage the game very well," said Tavares.

Tavares clearly feels that this shouldn't be the case for a team in the Maple Leafs' current position, pointing to both the talent and the level of experience on the roster as reasons for why it has been unacceptable.

"We have a lot of very good hockey players, we have a very veteran team, so it's just the decision to do it shift after shift," said Tavares.

Tavares was then asked point blank if he was feeling frustrated with the current situation for the Maple Leafs and he didn't shy away from the question.

"Yeah I mean we gain some traction and then we shoot ourselves in the foot again and put ourselves in a tough spot," admitted Tavares.

Despite his frustrations, Tavares is already putting this one behind him.

"Not the way we would have liked it to have gone to this point in the season but all we can do is move forward," said Tavares. "Lot of hockey left to be played."
