This just in, the Boston Bruins have signed superstar forward David Pastrnak to an eight year contract extension worth $11.25 million per season.

This is obviously a crazy deal that has been months in the making, but what's even crazier is that just moments prior the Bruins also made a blockbuster trade with the Detroit Red Wings, in acquiring veteran forward Tyler Bertuzzi for a 1st round pick and a 4th round pick.

So... if the Bertuzzi trade wasn't enough news for you this morning, Bruins GM Don Sweeney decided you could chew on a Pastrnak extension as well. Wild stuff...

NHL insider Darren Dreger reports that Pastrnak's new deal comes with a full no-movement clause for first five years and a modified no-trade clauses for final three years of the deal.

And the full salary breakdown courtesy of Dreger's TSN colleague Pierre LeBrun:

And if that's not enough, Pastrnak's deal makes his the 6th highest paid player in NHL history!

This is a deal that has been in the works going back to last offseason and all indications are that Pastrnak's agent J.P. Barry and Bruins GM Don Sweeney really ground this deal out over meticulous negotiations. This wasn't an easy agreement for either side, but now that it's done both sides can move forward and Pastrnak himself can focus on his next eight years wearing the gold and black spoked B.

Looking up and down the Bruins' lineup not only for this season, but for seasons to come and it doesn't look like they plan on regressing anytime soon. Kudos to Sweeney for recognizing that his team has a window to win now and that window won't stay open forever. The Bruins are clearly loading up to take a run at the Stanley Cup and it's only fair given how this team has played so far this season. With the jolt they'll get from Bertuzzi's acquisition and from a focused Pastrnak, there's could be no stopping this team once the puck drops on the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Stay tuned, this could get interesting.
