Brutal comments from Nathan MacKinnon directed at his own fans.
It was a tough Saturday night for National Hockey League superstar Nathan MacKinnon and he made little effort to conceal it during his post-game comments.
MacKinnon and his Avalanche faced off against the Dallas Stars on Saturday night, a rematch of the hotly contested first round series between these two teams in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs. There were a lot of emotions there of course with former longtime Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen leading the charge for the Dallas Stars, and it may very well have been those emotions that fueled MacKinnon's anger during his post game comments.
While the Avalanche put up a valiant effort, eventually losing by a score of 5-4 in the shootout, it wasn't enough to get a measure of revenge on Rantanen and the Stars. Making things worse is the fact that MacKinnon and the Avalanche were booed at points during the game by their own fans, something MacKinnon took notice of and made comments about after being asked about the Avalanche's power play.
"I thought it was really good tonight, really good, a lot of great chances," said MacKinnon. "I know we were getting booed, I guess they don't really know what a good power play looks like."
The uncharacteristically harsh comments towards his own fan base didn't end there, with MacKinnon taunting the fans once again and even daring them to do more booing in the future.
"We had a ton of chances and nothing was going in and we finally got one, so I guess they gotta boo us more," said MacKinnon.
Unsurprisingly these comments from MacKinnon have caused quite a stir and it will be interesting to see if any fans hold it against him moving forward. I certainly don't think they are going to discourage the fans who booed the team from doing it again in the future.
