A terrible moment as the Avalanche captain is injured once again.
This was a terrible sight to see on Sunday night.
During a game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Florida Panthers, Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog appeared to suffer a serious injury. Landeskog crashed violently into the Panthers net during the opening minutes of the game's second period when a scoring chance for the Avalanche turned into a complete disaster.
Landeskog looked like he had some open ice in front of him but in a catastrophic moment his left ankle or leg appeared to buckle under him and sent him falling hard down to the ice. Unfortunately for Landeskog there was no way for him to stop his forward momentum and it was at that moment that he went hard into the goalpost.
To make matters worse, Landeskog went into the goalpost at a sideways angle causing his ribs to absorb the entire impact with the net. Landeskog hit the net with such force that his body briefly contorted around the post in painful looking fashion.
Whether the injury to the ribs or his left leg was the issue remains unclear, but what I do know is that Landeskog was unable to leave the ice under his own power. The Avalanche captain appeared to be in severe distress and had to be helped off the ice, a truly horrible sight to see.
Landeskog is of course only playing because of a heroic effort he made to comeback from a debilitating injury in the first place, and your heart breaks to see him suffering like this after such a long road back to the NHL.
Hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
