Come on commissioner… everyone knows who Cale Makar is! Don’t you?
Last season, Makar won the Conn Smythe, which is awarded to the postseason’s most valuable player. And that’s because he was a driving force in the Colorado Avalanche’s run to the Stanley Cup. He also won the Norris, which is given to the league’s best defenseman during the regular season and is now a huge favorite to win it again in 2022-23.
Some folks have even predicted that he could win the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP. The last defenseman to win the honours was when Chris Pronger won the award as a member of the St. Louis Blues in 1999-2000. Prior to Pronger, Bobby Orr was the last defenseman to win the award all the way back in 1971-72. He is in the same discussions for the Hart Trophy as as Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews and Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid.
Makar is a huge star amongst stars in Colorado, on top of Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog. Everyone knows who is he… except the NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.
On live television on Wednesday night, Bettman talked about the league’s superstars, but unfortunately messed up Makar’s name, calling him Caleb…
Cringe alert:
Yes, Gary, you will be trending as the Avalanche and CALE Makar raise the banner tonight ahead of the game against the Chicago Blackhawks in Denver.
