Gary Bettman turns to Calgary after Edmonton’s success

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was in Edmonton yesterday to visit  the brand New Rogers Place arena before the Oilers games against the Stars.

It was a first for Bettman and his team in the new building that cost $480 million. Gary Bettman has been asked if he would be working with the Calgary Flames for a new building in a close future.

I hope it will be the case,Bettman said. “Calgary obviously needs a new arena and hopefully this arena and this complex is inspirational.

Bettman would like to implement the Edmonton business plan for their arena to Calgary to replace the Scotiabank Saddledome.

"This arena is nothing short of phenomenal," said Bettman. "I was intimately involved with Daryl Katz and the mayor of Edmonton as this was on the drawing board and I knew there was a great vision for what this arena would be and what the (accompanying under-construction entertainment region) Ice District, but seeing the arena finished is nothing short of phenomenal."
