A disturbing warning from the projected first overall pick in the draft.
One of the top young prospects for the 2026 National Hockey League Entry Draft has just issued a dire warning to hockey fans, one that speaks to the unfortunate ugliness that can often accompany social media.
On Saturday, projected first overall pick Gavin McKenna took to his Instagram to issue a warning to fans about someone that has been impersonating him online. While that might seem harmless enough, McKenna also revealed that the account has been engaged in doing "inappropriate things" while posing as the young hockey phenom which makes things considerably more disturbing.
Here is the message McKenna posted on Saturday:
Wish I didn't have to do this but there's been a fake snap account of me doing inappropriate things that have been ongoing for a while The imposter account is g_mckenna27 and pretty sure there was another fake one which got banned
My account is gavinmckenna27 and is verified so if it isn't verified it isn't me and don't fall for it.

While McKenna has clarified his real account, he has also asked fans not to start sending him requests as he is only doing so to prevent fans from potentially being harmed by these imposters.

Mckenna is of course only 18 years old and hasn't even reached the National Hockey League yet, so it is unfortunate that he is already having to deal with some of the pitfalls of being in the public spotlight.
The youngster is coming off a big season with Pennsylvania State University, one in which he had 15 goals and 36 assists for 51 points in just 35 games in the Big 10, setting himself on a clear path to the NHL.
