Gavin McKenna prepares for first season alongside NHL superstar.

Although they are coming off of what was a very disappointing season, the Toronto Maple Leafs have a lot of excitement around their team heading into the 2026-27 National Hockey League season thanks to some pretty incredible luck in the Draft Lottery.

That luck landed them first overall pick Gavin McKenna who came in to the 2026 NHL Entry Draft with a tremendous amount of hype around him. It seems that McKenna intends to deliver on that hype as well, with some very good signs for the Maple Leafs making their way onto social media in recent days.

McKenna has been spotted already training hard for what will inevitably be his NHL debut this season, and on top of that he's doing it with one of the best young superstars in the NHL today. Video shows McKenna training in Vancouver alongside San Jose Sharks star forward Macklin Celebrini, with the two men spotted chatting together during one of their on ice workouts.

As you can see just from the type of drills their are running during what should ostensibly be their offseason, they are taking these workouts together very seriously. Here is a look at McKenna in action:

Fans in Toronto are understandably extremely excited for McKenna's debut despite it still being a few months away, and McKenna it seems is doing a good job of building up that anticipation by doing all of the right things ahead of that debut.
