Gavin McKenna's gift to former Maple Leaf stirs up bizarre controversy on Sunday.

The newest star of the Toronto Maple Leafs may have unwittingly stirred up a minor controversy over the weekend after he may have disposed of a very expensive gift from one of his new teammates in rather casual fashion.

It all began on Saturday when around noon former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Jeff O'Neill revealed that he had received a call from none other than first overall pick Gavin McKenna. According to O'Neill, McKenna had called to request permission to wear the same number that O'Neill himself had worn for two seasons in Toronto, #92. It seemed unusual for McKenna to make such a request for a player of O'Neill's stature, but the story only got more bizarre from there.

On Sunday, O'Neill once again took to social media, this time to claim that he had been the recipient of a very expensive gift courtesy of the aforementioned McKenna. In a now deleted tweet, O'Neill appeared to claim that McKenna had gifted him a Rolex watch that had previously been gifted to McKenna by Sergei Bobrovsky for taking McKenna's usual #72.

There's no telling why O'Neill made the decision to quickly take down the tweet, it could be anything from a joke gone too far to a less than happy teammate after such an expensive gift was discarded so casually.
