Krystal McKenna, mother of projected first overall pick at the 2026 National Hockey League entry Draft Gavin McKenna, has once again found her name in the headlines and this time for all of the wrong reasons.

Hockey fans became aware of Krystal McKenna following an incident back in January which resulted in her son being slapped with a felony assault charge. As the story goes, a young Gavin McKenna took exception to some of the words one man was directing at his mother and dropped him with a punch that also broke the man's jaw. That felony charge against Gavin McKenna has since been dismissed, but now the McKenna's are facing new charges stemming from that very same incident.

Krystal McKenna has now been charged with illegally providing alcohol to minors according to criminal docket filed last month, with the date of the offense suggesting a connection to the previous incident or just an incredible coincidence. The offense is alleged to have occurred on January 31st, which was the very same day which Gavin McKenna was charged by law enforcement for the aforementioned assault that resulted in a broken jaw.

Although information about the incident in question is limited at this time, Krystal McKenna's preliminary hearing for this new charge is currently scheduled for June 3rd at 8:30 am. We will very likely have to await the results of that preliminary hearing before we learn more details regarding these latest charges.

This is obviously a less than ideal situation for the McKenna family, especially with such a big moment in their lives just on the horizon. The 2026 NHL Entry Draft will be taking place on the 26th and 27th of June of this year and you have to wonder how much the McKenna's will be able to enjoy that moment with the knowledge that Krystal McKenna will have a preliminary hearing just a few short days later.

Although there has been some debate, McKenna remains the heavy favorite to go first overall at this year's draft, with the young forward coming off a strong season at Penn State in which he had 15 goals and 36 assists for 51 points in just 35 games this season.
