Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray was quickly bombarded with questions following the huge 7 player trade he made today with Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. First and foremost among those questions was how Murray was going to handle the flaws or perceived flaws in the character of Evander Kane, the best player in the trade. Murray made it clear he felt his team was more then capable of handling the young forward.
“I made a trade for him, so I’m not worried about his character, it wasn’t all unicorns and rainbows. All players have warts."
Murray has earned the benefit of the doubt, he was one of the most respected talent scouts in the NHL before taking over the reigns at Buffalo Sabres GM. Murray will have some help in the locker room in the form, of veteran captain Brian Gionta. As a former captain in one of the toughest markets n the NHL(Montreal), Gionta is well equipped to handle the situation.
