The NHL Department of Player Safety is once agains asked to address lack of consistency in his latest decisions, especially now that we’re getting deeper in the postseason.

Earlier on Friday, it was announced that Florida Panthers winger Sam Bennett received a $5,000 fine on Friday for cross-checking Toronto Maple Leafs forward Michael Bunting in Game 2 of their second round series.

During the contest, Bennett was assigned a minor penalty for cross-checking for Bunting in the neck area, and several fans expected a suspension, especially due to his history with the NHL Department of Player Safety…

However, the max fine was served and of course, it prompted fans to call out George Parros for the department being too lenient this season. Sports writer Adam Gretz recalled an interview in which Parros was offended at the suggestion that his department has become more lenient, and cannot believe Bennett wasn’t suspended for the play.

To make things worse for Parros, Bennett was also not disciplined for actions against Matthew Knies, who he threw to the ice after a hit in the first period. Knies played the remainder of the first period after the incident with Bennett, but did not return for the last two frames.

Which all leads to Parros trending again this season. Parros has felt the heat ever since he took over the NHL’s Department of Player Safety in 2017 with a promise to crack down on slashing and non-hockey infractions. And of course, this was funny since Parros racked up 1,092 penalty minutes in 474 regular-season games with the Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche, Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens. But he was never fined or suspended.

And maybe that’s his minding when looking at what other players pull off on the ice…
