UPDATE: New York Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Penguins forward Jeff Carter colliding with Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin and well... surprise, surprise Gallant isn't exactly thrilled with Carter.
Check out the coach's post-game comments on the play:
"I wasn't too happy, obviously. In a game like that, I mean there's no reason for it. I was disappointed, him going after (Shesterkin) a little bit like that. Carter's a good honest player. But it just didn't look good tonight."

Well, we've already seen one goaltender injured and knocked out of a game in these Stanley Cup Playoffs so far, as Carolina Hurricanes netminder Antti Raanta was hit by Boston Bruins F David Pastrnak, and didn't return to action. And while it looked at first as though we could have another instance of just that tonight at Madison Square Garden, it became apparent that it wasn't the case.
Late in the 3rd period of tonight's Game 2 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers, Pens forward Jeff Carter ran into goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who had just ventured behind the net. It looks as though Shesterkin initiated contact with the Pens forward, and certainly did his best to try and sell it as if he were seriously injured; Carter was given a two-minute minor for goaltender interference.
Shesterkin lay motionless on the ice for several seconds while being tended to by a trainer, but was suddenly no worse for wear. Of course, Shesterkin routinely faces down shots in excess of 100 MPH that strike him in the same place on his pads that Carter made contact with.
That's not something that Shesterkin needs to be doing, especially after entering himself into the NHL record books for 2nd most saves all-time in a postseason game.
