THIS JUST IN! Full details below:
Long-time NHL head coach Gerard Gallant will once again be behind a professional hockey team’s bench. However, it won’t be in the National Hockey League. On Thursday morning, insider Pierre LeBrun, who’s currently on vacation during the more quiet part of the season, reported that Gallant was heading to Russia.
“Gerard Gallant is headed to Russia to coach in the KHL. Should be an announcement this week.”
Daria Tuboltseva has confirmed LeBrun's report, adding that Gallant is now the head coach of Chinese Kunlun Red Star of the KHL.
Gallant has not coached full-time since he was let go by the New York Rangers following the 2022-23 season. He was however the bench boss for Team Canada for the Spengler Cup.
The 61-year-old coach played 11 NHL seasons for the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning. He has coached over 700 NHL games for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights and Rangers, winning the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year for guiding Vegas to the Stanley Cup final in its inaugural season, 2017-18.
Fans in the NHL would love to see Gallant back in the league, however, for now, sounds like he will bring his leadership and expertise over seas.
