Dan Girardi has one thing in mind for the upcoming season, prove the New York Rangers wrong.

After being bought out by the Blue Shirts in the off-season, 33-year-old defenseman Girardi signed on July 1, a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning worth $3 million per year.

Girardi's new contract not only gives him a chance to keep playing in the NHL but also grants him an opportunity to show that he can still make an impact on an NHL defensive squad.

“Obviously being bought out makes me more hungry to show that I can still play and contribute,” said Girardi in an interview with NBC Sports.

"The ending in New York isn’t what I wanted, but I think this is a good opportunity for me to come here and help the younger guys on the back end," said Girardi who scored 4 goals and added 11 assists last year with the Rangers in 63 games.

In the interview, Girardi said he "[is] 100% ready to play and that he feel[s] hungrier than [he's] been any other year.”
