The National Hockey League was the sight of a very scary incident on Saturday night when Dallas Stars defenseman Nils Lundkvist was the victim of a very unfortunate accident. During the course of Game 4 of the opening round Stanley Cup playoff series between the Stars and Minnesota Wild, Lundkvist was struck in the face by the blade of a skate.

It was completely accidental, with Lundkvist himself causing the incident to occur when he tripped up Wild forward Michael McCarron, causing him to fall awkwardly to the ice near the Stars' net. As McCarron fell his feet would come up ever so slightly, and that would be enough to send them directly into the path of the face of Lundkvist who had also lost his balance on the play. Lundkvist's face would slam into the skate, immediately leaving a nasty gash on the side of his face.

On Sunday, Glen Gulutzan would provide the first update on Lundkvist since the scary incident, with the Stars head coach providing some good, albeit limited, news. Gulutzan revealed to reporters that Lundkvist had not needed a trip to the hospital, a good sign to be sure, while also indicating that he was unsure of Lundkvist's status moving forward. Gulutzan indicated that he would know more on Monday ahead of Game 5.

After something that frightening I know everyone is just hoping that Lundkvist will be able to make a full recovery.
