GM Ken Holland to meet with Coach Babcock about new contract

According to solid NHL sources, the Detroit Red Wings’ General Manager, Ken Holland, is to meet soon with Coach Mike Babcock with a contract offer to be presented. Earlier reports this month stated that the contract negotiations would be done prior to the season. If no agreement is concluded before the regular season begins, negotiations will resume once the season is done. "At the end of the day, that makes the most sense," Holland said on Sept. 4. "Our team doesn't need an everyday Mike Babcock watch all year long. We are going to talk in September, and we'll see where we go."
