This waivers development fuels speculation that he could be on the move again.
It’s been a tough road at the very start of the 2025-26 season for goalie Pheonix Copley. Just last week, he was acquired back by the Kings when he had previously been placed on waivers by Los Angeles and claimed off the wire by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
On Oct. 15, the Kings acquired Copley back for future considerations, but on Wednesday, have shoved him back on waivers.
Copley, 33, spent the majority of last season in the AHL with the Ontario Reign, going 24-17-1 in 42 games, posting a .904 save percentage and 2.49 goals-against average.
This season, he has yet to get a start in the NHL, either with the Lightning or the Kings.
In 77 career NHL games with the Kings, Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues, the Alaska native has a 44-16-8 record with a 2.84 GAA and .898 save percentage.
Los Angeles brought back Copley last year on a one-year deal worth $775,000 to provide some depth behind Darcy Kuemper and Anton Forsberg.
However, the dance continues for Copley, who if he goes unclaimed, will land back in the minors with the Reign. But there is some sense that, just like it happened weeks ago, Copley could be claimed by another NHL team and be on the move again!
Two other players were also placed on waivers on Wednesday at the deadline as the Utah Mammoth look to demote winger Andrew Agozzino while the New York Islanders have moved forward Marc Gatcomb on the wire.
