The New Jersey Devils have traded goalie Vitek Vanecek to the San Jose Sharks in return for their netminder Kaapo Kähkönen.

On top of that the Sharks are also acquiring goaltender Devan Cooley from the Buffalo Sabres.

This is a second trade deadline move for Kahkonen, who was acquired in 2022 from the Minnesota Wild in return for defenseman Jake Middleton and a draft pick.

The large netminder is in the final season of a two-year, $5.5 million deal with an AAV of $2.75 million and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He has a 6-20-3 record this season with a .895 save percentage and 3.81 goals-against average.

As for Vanecek, he is 28 years of age and has a 17-9-3 record this season with an .890 save percentage and a 3.18 goals-against average.
