A horrible moment for a young NHL prospect on Sunday night.
It is hard not to feel bad for young National Hockey League hopeful Tomas Suchanek who unfortunately had a pretty big blunder on Sunday night.
Suchanek was in goal for the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night during a rookie showcase against the Los Angeles Kings and things were already going poorly for Suchanek and the rest of the Ducks' prospects when disaster struck. Almost exactly midway through the game, Suchanek would come out of his net in an attempt to prevent a scoring chance for the Kings, doing so by playing the puck.
Instead of nullifying the scoring chance however Suchanek would have what will perhaps go down as the most high-profile blunder of his career, shooting the puck into his own team's net for an own goal. Suchanek appeared to be attempting to play the puck around the back of the net but didn't take enough time to play it properly, and rushing cost him dearly.
Here is a look at the incident:
As I mentioned it is hard not to feel bad for Suchanek who is just 22 years old and has only had experience at the American Hockey League level thus far in his career. The good news for the young man is that he has looked solid in the AHL with a 2.92 goals against average and a .910 save percentage over 29 AHL games thus far.
Hopefully this is a mistake he can learn from and perhaps it will even be one that lights a fire under him as he continues to work towards his dream of playing in the NHL one day.
