The second draft day is about to start in Montreal, but right before the St. Louis Blues pulled off a trade, shipping out goalie Ville Husso to the Detroit Red Wings in return for for a third round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

There were talks that Husso was unlikely to return to St. Louis as he wanted to field offers from other clubs this off-season as an unrestricted free agent.

The Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres could were believed to have interest in the netminder though the Red Wings are the ones winning the sweepstakes. The Hawks did however acquire goalie Petr Mrazek from the Maple Leafs in a first draft day trade on Thursday.

As soon as the trade was made public, Pierre LeBrun reported that Husso and the Wings agreed on a three-year deal, at $4.75M AAV.

This season with the Blues, Husso posted a 25-7-6 record, along with a 2.56 goals-against-average, a .919 save percentage and two shutouts.
