There has perhaps been no player in the National Hockey League that has been the subject of more trade speculation over the last several years than Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson. Gibson has been at the heart of trade rumors for years but on Saturday, it all finally came to an end with the Ducks finally pulling the trigger on a trade deal.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli, the Anaheim Ducks have sent Gibson to the Detroit Red Wings in a trade deal. Coming back the other way to Anaheim will be goaltender Petr Mrazek, a second round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft and a fourth round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

Gibson is coming off of a bounce back season in which he recorded a 2.73 goals against average and a .912 save percentage over 29 games with the Anaheim Ducks last season, but it remains to be seen if he can maintain that form with a heavier workload. In his two previous seasons, in which he played 53 and 46 games respectively, Gibson had a .899 and a .888 save percentage, a far cry from what you want in an NHL goaltender.

Mrazek on the other hand only appeared in 5 games for the Red Wings last season, recording a 2.49 goals against average and a .902 save percentage. Mrazek spent most of the season with the Chicago Blackhawks where he had a 3.46 goals against average and a .890 save percentage on an admittedly poor Blackhawks team.
