The Colorado Avalanche have provided a very concerning update on goaltender Pavel Francouz.

On Sunday, the Avalanche announced that they were shutting Francouz down for the remainder of the regular season, this in spite of the fact that Francouz has yet to play a game for them this season.

Francouz has struggled mightily with a groin injury for the past few seasons and has never played more than 34 games in a single National Hockey League season due to injury issues. Although he has only been in the NHL for a few years, Francouz put a great deal of wear and tear on his body during his years as a goaltender in the Kontinental Hockey League.

You have to wonder what this will mean for the future of the 33 year old goaltender, especially as far as the NHL is concerned.

Francouz has appeared in a total of just 79 games over his several seasons in the NHL, posting a goals against average of 2.49 and a .919 save percentage over his career.
