Golden Knights brutally shut down Fleury reunion rumours!

A bomb was dropped on Tuesday that the Vegas Golden Knights are interested in acquiring Marc-Andre Fleury as it was confirmed that goalie Robin Lehner had sustained an “upper-body” injury, which sources say is a torn labrum in his shoulder that will eventually require surgery. Frank Seravalli of Daily Face-Off said that, according to sources, the Golden Knights were hoping for a reunion with Flower.

The rumour was quickly and harshly denied by GM Kelly McCrimmon, who poured cold water all over it later on Tuesday.

There is absolutely no credence to that rumor at all,” McCrimmon told David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review Journal. “I wouldn’t normally speak (officially) on such things, but there will be so much racket about this, it’s important to let people know that’s not going to happen.”

Once the rumour emerged, fans were wondering if Fleury would be open to returning to the Golden Knights who traded him for nothing, to a struggling team without having the decency to pick up the phone and let him know before the transaction hit the news feed…

Seravalli tried to communicate with Fleury’s agent Allan Walsh on Tuesday, but those questions went unreturned. Later, it was McCrimmon’s comments that took over.

There is a sense that Fleury could be on the move ahead of the trade deadline, though the Blackhawks appear set on making sure Fleury is happy if he gets traded. While he only holds a 10-team no-trade list in his contract, Chicago is expected to do right by him. He is in the final year of his contract with a cap hit of $7 million.

Recent reports have indicated that Flower is not interested in joining the Washington Capitals, who have been in the mix to acquire him. It remains to be seen if another reunion could be in the cards for Fleury, but this time, with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Not sure the Pens would shut down that rumour as brutally as Vegas did…
