Golden Knights reveal key detail about Nate Schmidt's injury
Keystone Press Agency

We reported yesterday that 26-year-old defenseman Nate Schmidt has suffered an ankle injury during his offseason training, although the circumstances and its severity are currently unclear.

The Vegas Golden Knights have confirmed the news on their official Twitter account, stating that his case will be reevaluated in a week or so:

The 26-year-old blueliner was the player the Golden Knights selected from the Washington Capitals in the NHL Expansion Draft. At the time Schmidt was a restricted free agent but he eventually agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth an average annual value of $2.25 million.

Schmidt played 60 games with the Caps last year, in which he recorded three goals and 14 assists for 17 points. He added four more in 11 playoff games. He suited up in exactly 200 career NHL games, and amassed 43 points and a +/- differential of +36.
