Golden Knights take one final shot at NHL officiating as Bruins lose the Stanley Cup

They couldn’t help themselves…

There was a tiny glimmer of hope last night for the Boston Bruins when defenseman Matt Grzelcyk scored the only goal for B Town with two minutes and 10 seconds to go in Game 7.

It was short-lived, but it was long enough for the Vegas Golden Knights to take one final shot at officiating - the controversial part of the game that was most talked about this spring.

Around the time of Grzelcyk’s goal, the Golden Knights took to Twitter to make this hilarious post public:

“Bruins need a 5 minute power play…”

Burn.

We all know what they’re hinting at.

Back in their first-round Game 7 against the San Jose Sharks, the Golden Knights were given a controversial five-minute major and game misconduct after an unfortunate incident involving their player Cody Eakin and Sharks captain Joe Pavelski.

During the do or die contest between San Jose and Vegas, the Sharks were behind 3-0 in the third period. Right after the face-off against Eakin, Sharks Pavelski was pushed by the Vegas forward. Losing his balance, Pavelski ended up in the way of Paul Stastny, who crushed him brutally on the ice in a pinball effect. He fell hard on his shoulder and head, right on the ice and left the game bloody. Eakin was given a major cross-checking penalty and was ejected from the game on a misconduct.

The Sharks went on to score four goals on the five-minute power-play.

Yeah, the Bruins absolutely needed that last night, but it did not happen. It would have been a nice touch, seeing that the first goal from the Bruins came from Grzelcyk, who had been cleared to play Game 7 hours prior.

Grzelcyk has been sidelined since Game 2, when he was boarded by Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist, who served a one-game suspension for the play.

The Bruins were hopeful that Grzelcyk could return as soon as Game 5, but team doctors would not medically clear him from concussion protocol.

He was back last night and scored the lone Bruins goal… but it was too little, too late.
