What a gesture. This guy is the ultimate teammate.
As if Philadelphia Flyers fans needed any reminder that Pierre-Edouard Bellemare is the ultimate team player. The 32 year-old native of Le Blanc-Mesnil, France won player of the game awards for team France in their incredible victory over team Finland on home ice in Paris. Except, rather than accept the award, Bellemare refused and insisted that goaltender Florian Hardy be named the winner.
Hardy was remarkable for France in the upset victory, making 41 saves. While Bellemare had a strong game with an assist and three shots on goal, the crowd was clearly expecting Hardy to be named the game’s MVP. When Bellemare’s name was announced the assembled crowd grumbled, that is until Bellemare approached officials and pleaded for Hardy to be named winner. When the officials concurred the crowd roared and Hardy skated over to accept his award.
It was a special moment for the French fans who don’t often get the opportunity to celebrate hockey in their country. You gotta see it:
