It has been an eventful year for Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug. The 26 year-old defenseman not only put up a career high 51 points, but he has officially completed his degree at Michigan State. The smooth skating and hard shooting blue liner made the announcement on Twitter this morning and has been receiving kudos all day.
Good for him. Living and playing professional hockey in a sports-crazy market like Boston isn’t easy, so the fact that he was able to focus on his studies while also excelling at his sport deserves some recognition. Academics aside, Bruins fans should be very pleased with Krug’s development and excited for what he can do in the future. His 43 assists in 2016-17 hint at the possibility of Krug becoming an elite NHL power play quarterback.
While not everything is perfect in Beantown, the team’s young defence corps of Krug, Brandon Carlo and Charlie MacAvoy bodes well for the team’s future.
