Granddaughter of 90s Leafs coach is dominating her league!

Yes, let's go, kiddo! Atta, girl!

You might say that hockey is the family business for the Murphy's.

13 year old Brooklyn Murphy, Granddaughter of former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Murphy, is excelling in the sport and was named 'Athlete of the Year' for Grade 8 at her school. She describes herself as a goal scoring center who puts the team first.

Brooklyn was featured on Toronto's CityNews for her accomplishments this morning and her story is getting elevated thanks to her relationship with her Grandfathter. Brooklyn pushes herself and uses her family's history in the sport to inspire herself. What's even better though is that Brooklyn herself is inspiring kids herself, regardless of her pedigree.

"I have lots of neighbourhood friends who are a lot younger than me and I would say that I've kind of inspired them to play hockey... and I'm glad that I helped them to love the sport," she shared with CityNews.

Mike Murphy, of course, was the Leafs' head coach of the Leafs from 1996 until 1998 and then transitioned into a role with the NHL as Vice-President. Prior to that he had a stellar NHL career with the St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and, most memorably, with the Los Angeles Kings. The Toronto native put up 238 goals and 556 points in 831 career NHL games.
