The Philadelphia Flyers broke fans’ hearts when they placed forward Oskar Lindblom on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a buyout. He carried an AAV of $3 million, giving the Flyers some extra cap space ahead of what should be a busy free agency period for the team.
On Wednesday, the 22-year-old became an unrestricted free agent, and many teams got in the mix in order to land his services.
The San Jose Sharks came out on top, signing Lindblom to a two-year contract, with a $2.5 M AAV, according to insider Pierre LeBrun.
Lindblom became an inspiration and a fan favorite in Philadelphia after he battled back from Ewing’s Sarcoma to return to the ice. He had 26 points in 79 games with the Flyers this year, with the 2014 fifth-round pick posting 97 points over 263 games, all with the Flyers.
This is a great new start for Lindblom.
