Fans in the City of Boston were left devastated over the weekend when news broke that beloved former Bruins enforcer and former radio host Lyndon Byers had passed away at the young age of just 61 years old.

One need look no further than the comment section under the post we made about the news, with hundreds and hundreds of fans coming out to each share their own story about how the man better known simply as "LB" had touched their lives in one positive manner or another.

While the loss of LB will impact everyone who was a fan of his for many years it is especially difficult for those who were close to him, including his long time broadcast partner Greg "Hillman" Hill. On Monday, Hill took to the airwaves and began his show by remembering his friend and apologizing to his listeners for the fact that much of his show would be focused on the loss of LB over the weekend.

"I will say this show is predominantly sports... but I will also be unapologetic about the show today probably being full of a lot of LB," said Hill with emotion in his voice. "I am gutted by the passing of our pal Lyndon Byers over the weekend."

Hill worked closely with LB for many years but the love between the two men went well beyond their working relationship, with the two having formed a genuine friendship that spanned decades.

"LB and I were friends for 34 long years," said Hill his voice breaking as he made the statement. "Co-workers on the same radio show for 23 years, and so there is a lot to talk about when it comes to LB."

Hill wasn't shy about admitting that the loss of his friend has had a profound impact on him.

"It does hurt," admitted Hill during the opening segment of his show.

Hill's message to his audience was to cherish every moment you have with those you love, indicating that you never know when it might be the last time you see or speak to them.

"The last time we had LB on the show was in February, LB was a leap year baby, celebrating his birthday and I think it was probably a month or so ago that I mentioned he was in the hospital and dealing with some stuff," said Hill. "It's a good lesson about making sure when somebody is not feeling great that you're always checking in with that person. You just never, never know."

Despite being born and raised in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, an entirely different country, it is very clear that LB left a mark on the City of Boston that will still be there long after he is gone.

"He was a guy who was drafted in the second round by the Boston Bruins and came here and turned into more of a Bostonian than a lot of people who live here," said Hill.
