The Montreal Canadiens are doing everything they can to keep active into the playoff race and racking up points to be a contender this spring. And we mean everything.

Canadiens forward Philip Danault met with reporters after this morning’s skate and revealed that he suffered a broken nose in the game against the San Jose Sharks when forward Gustav Nyquist accidentally nudged him in the face with his elbow.

The Habs wanted him back on the ice as quick as possible and needed to get his nose straighten out fast. The trainers therefore forced him to get his nose broken again - this time on the other side of his face - and put it back straight. It was an intervention that took barely 5 minutes, but according to him it felt like an eternity and was extremely painful.

"It took 5 minutes, but it felt like it was 2 hours; they broke it on the other side but I want to precise that my nose was already a little crooked before; I was born with a crooked nose. If the world were wondering, we limited the damage.”

For now, Danault will have to wear a full visor with a cage for the last stretch of the season. However, this incident might have allow him to straighten an already crooked nose with any surgery…

In 68 games this season, Danault has tallied 11 goals and 35 assists for a total of 46 points - with a slightly broken nose.

He will be in the lineup tonight as the Canadiens face off against the Detroit Red Wings in Montreal.
