Habs GM makes two very bold proclamations.

The Montreal Canadiens have been the subject of several rumors in recent weeks and on Monday during a major press conference Marc Bergevin, the franchise's general manager, went a long way towards putting those rumors to bed.

We'll start with the most sensational rumor first, the ones suggesting a trade of star defenseman P.K. Subban had as much as a 50/50 chance of happening over the summer. For those who missed it the rumors suggested a major rift in the locker room, specifically between Subban and captain Max Pacioretty, would be the impetus for such a move, and some, including former player George Laraque, suggested Subban was so toxic to the room it was inevitable.

Here was how Bergevin responded today, although you will notice he does leave himself some wiggle room with his choice of words.

"My intention is not to tradeP.K. Subban. He's a very big part of this team and an elite defenseman."

So Bergevin doesn't intend to trade Subban, which probably means he won't trade Subban unless someone blows him away with an offer, but again Bergevin clearly chose his words carefully here so it's a little bit harder to be definitive either way on this one.

The other big question was surrounding Michel Therrien, the Habs head coach, who despite having the full support of Bergevin during a terrible collapse was rumored to be on the hot seat. Those rumors gathered steam a few days ago when rumors of Bruins head coach Claude Julien being viewed as a possible replacement surfaced, assuming of course that Julien would be let go by the Bruins prior to that occurring.

Bergevin stated flatly that Therrien would be back next season, and even went a step futher crediting him for the development of the team's top defenseman.

"Under Michel, P.K. has grown into a fine young defenseman," said Bergevin as per Marc-Antoine Godin.

While there may be some wiggle room on the Subban rumors, it's clear that Bergevin has buried any rumors involving the termination of his head coach.
