This just in, the Montreal Canadiens have announced that veteran defenseman David Savard will be out of the team's lineup indefinitely while he recovers from an upper body injury.
Savard skated nearly 17 minutes in last night's victory over the Buffalo Sabres, but exited the game after a particularly gutsy penalty killing shift where he blocked multiple slap-shots and lost his skate blade in the process.
Check it out:
To me, it looks like Savard took that first blast from Tage Thompson off the arm or the wrist. You can see Savard shake off his hand after blocking that shot. An absolutely gutsy effort from the veteran D-man.
The 33 year old defenseman hasn't played a full NHL season since 2018-19 with the Columbus Blue Jackets. In fact, he has missed over 40 games the past two seasons since signing with the Canadiens.
