Habs prospect seriously injured during practice.

The Canadiens lose one of their rookies early.

The Montreal Canadiens are just now getting their preparations for the upcoming regular season underway, but unfortunately it sounds like the team is already dealing with a relatively significant injury.

Notably absent from Habs rookie camp has been Canadiens rookie centerman Vinzenz Rohrer. Well thanks to a report from Canadiens prospects reporter Costa Rontzocos, we now have a better idea of what has happened to the 18 year old Austrian forward.

According to Rontzocos, who spoke to Ottawa 67's head coach Dave Cameron, Rohrer suffered an injury during practice when he was struck in the face with a puck. At this time it has not been reported where the puck was coming from, but it sounds like Rohrer's injury is pretty serious. Rohrer is expected to be out "week to week" which would appear to indicate that the Canadiens expect him to miss significant time as a result of what has occurred.

Rohrer was selected in the third round (75th overall) of this year's NHL Entry Draft and was not expected to compete for a spot on the Canadiens' main roster this season. Nonetheless there's little question that this will be a bump in the road when it comes to his development, a less than ideal scenario for both the young forward and for the Canadiens' organization.

Rohrer spent last season with the 67's in the Ontario Hockey League, appearing in 64 games and scoring 25 goals while adding 23 assists for a total of 48 points.
