Habs receive request from another NHL team to hire Jeff Gorton

The former Rangers GM has helped rebuild the Montreal Canadiens.

According to a report from New York Islanders insider Arthur Staple, former Edmonton Oilers and Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland is a "top choice" for the Islanders' vacant GM role.

Interestingly enough, Staple also mentions that the Islanders requested to interview Montreal Canadiens Vice President Jeff Gorton but it's believed that the Habs denied the request.

Gorton would be, no doubt, an excellent hire for the Islanders if they manage to wrestle him away from the Canadiens. He and his family spend their summers in New York.

As for Holland, he's an accomplished Hall of Famer, but he literally hasn't made a good hockey move in over a decade now. Maybe the Islanders are simply following the plan they had with Lou Lamoriello and they're becoming a retirement home for Hall of Fame general managers?

In all seriousness, what are the Islanders thinking here?

They've got a team in transition and they just secured the 1st overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. They have an incredible goaltender in Ilya Sorokin and some star players up front in Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat. Now is the time to make a transition and to bolster their lineup with a savvy offseason. So they hire up the guy who has been mentally checked out for a decade? Come on...
